Dwarf

An ancient race, dwarves were dwindling in numbers for generation after generation. Then inexplicably the dwarven people were blessed with a boon known as the “Thunder Blessing”. This saw a dramatic increase in dwarf fertility rates with baby dwarves being born in dramatic numbers.

Dwarven Aging

Dwarves are a long lived race and physically become teenagers at around 13 and become young adults at around 45 years old. However upon reaching 13 years of age dwarves must begin an apprenticeship and are only considered an adult once they have completed it which can take anywhere from 30 to 50 years.

Dwarves reach middle-age at around their 155th birthday and are considered old at around 200 years old, aging towards each milestone much like a human would. Despite this, dwarves can live to be over 400 years old.

Half-Dwarves

Dwarves are able to a produce viable offspring with a number of races including elves, gnomes, halflings, humans and orcs. However The dwarven bloodline is unusually strong and so beyond a few differences in how they look (being much taller or shorter than most other dwarves, having difficulty growing facial hair) they are the same race as their dwarven parent. For dwarves of mixed parents they favour one parent’s race or the other.

Gold Dwarf

Gold dwarves are normally 4 feet in height while weighing somewhere between 200 to 300 lbs making them more squat than other dwarves. A light brown or tanned skin marks them as significantly darker than other dwarves while their eye color range between brown and hazel with their hair ranging between brown and black, typically graying in their older years.

Gold dwarves are fairly aloof when dealing with other races especially towards elves. The only exception to this are humans and strongheart halflings, viewing the latter as somewhat kindred spirits. Gold dwarves are struggling to cope with the increase in the birthrate which has led a significant percentage of the new generation to travel abroad.

Gold dwarf settlements are primarily in the Great Rift far to the Southeast of Cormyr. However gold dwarves traveling to Arabel are much more likely to hail from the smaller holdings located in the Giant’s Run Mountains.

Despite often being sarcastic and cynical, shield dwarves actually get along with most members of other races and welcome new ideas. The only exception to this are duergar, most genasi and half-orcs. The Thunder Blessing has been a great boon to shield dwarves and has given them new hope for their race’s future.
